(There will be a ‘Bring and Buy' stall) Donations welcomed Wild Life in Sacred PlacesChurch yards offer a home to wild flowers, fine grasses, food for butterflies, their caterpillars, birds etc.. Some have very old trees which should be recorded. Cumbria Wildlife Trust is developing a project to survey what already exists and to suggest improvements . A team from C.W.T. will visit when invited.
In this benefice we have three very varied church yards. Do we wish to be included? That is for the P.C.C.s to decide.
If we say, "Yes", what will be involved? Their team will survey the site then offer advice as to what can be done, for example, vary the time of cutting the grass so that flowers can seed, or encourage plants that provide food for wild life, or value ivy and other plants that provide food and shelter. The surveying and recording are done by trained volunteers - recruits are welcome. We should all think about this and contribute our ideas - hopefully at the Easter Vestry Meetings.
