Brow Edge sits on the left of the A590 if travelling towards Barrow in Furness and Brow Edge Road is a steep and winding hill taking the traveller to the top of Barrow Hill. (You will read in other pages that Backbarrow's name as a village is derived from the fact that it was situated at the back of Barrow Hill)
Many of the inhabitants worked in the Iron Making Industry during its time in the valley, then in cotton and finally in the production of Ultramarine Blue. |
