It would be easy for tourists and passing travellers to assume that Lakeside is simply a hotel complex and landing stage for the Windermere steamers. This link will open in a new page.
The Lakeside and Haverthwaite Steam Railway terminates at Lakeside Pier. Clicking this link will take you to a new page.
The fact is that Lakeside is a busy little village, easy on the eye and well worth a visit. Scenery affords views of woodland, fells and the lake, not to be missed. Finsthwaite & LakesideFinsthwaite and Lakeside are linked inextricably in the same way that Haverthwaite and Backbarrow are. The Village Hall which is next to the church in Finsthwaite is called Finsthwaite and Lakesdie Village Hall and is used by all the villages in the Leven Valley, as are any other Church Halls.
The difference is that in Finsthwaite and Lakeside the church no loger owns the hall, it is owned and managed by the community. Lakeside is probably best know to outsiders or visitors for the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Steam Railway who have their terminus and connection to the Windermere Steamers there.
Both are housed next to the Lakeside Hotel and close to the Boathouse Hotel. |
