2nd SPONSORED BICYCLE RIDE - 20th SEPTEMBER 2008

Raise money for your Church by cycling to Churches in your area. Obtain sponsorship, based on the number of churches you plan to visit, from friends, family and work colleagues. Choose you own route to visit as many churches in your area as you are able to in the time available (10 am – 5.30pm).
You can cycle, walk, ride a horse or use your Wheelchair if you are disabled, but cars and motorcycles are not allowed.

Devise your own route around churches in your area to suit your capabilities as a cyclist. Some churches in the Kendal and Windermere Deanery will be open or will provide refreshments and a signature list for cyclists on the day. Money raised will be divided between your own nominated church and Anglican Churches in the Kendal and Windermere Deanery areas.

Prizes will be awarded to cyclists who have visited the most churches and chocolates for the children. Sponsor forms available at Church. Additional sponsorship forms are available from Rev'd Tim Harmer 015395 68865.

Learning Together

Learning Together

The next learning together meetings will start in October. Firm dates will be given bit nearer the time. It has been very encouraging how the group has bonded and grown together promoting a closer working relationship between the three parishes and the communities.

Leven Valley Allotments Association and Gardening Club

Recently an Allotments Association was formed and will now be creating a Gardening Club for the whole of the Leven Valley. Meetings will be held "initially" in the Church Hall at St Anne's Haverthwaite but then we intend to extend meetings to all the communities of the Leven Valley.

Watch this space for more information.

Wild Life in Sacred Places

Church yards offer a home to wild flowers, fine grasses, food for butterflies, their caterpillars, birds etc.. Some have very old trees which should be recorded. Cumbria Wildlife Trust is developing a project to survey what already exists and to suggest improvements . A team from C.W.T. will visit when invited.

In this benefice we have three very varied church yards. Do we wish to be included? That is for the P.C.C.s to decide.

If we say, "Yes", what will be involved? Their team will survey the site then offer advice as to what can be done, for example, vary the time of cutting the grass so that flowers can seed, or encourage plants that provide food for wild life, or value ivy and other plants that provide food and shelter. The surveying and recording are done by trained volunteers - recruits are welcome. We should all think about this and contribute our ideas - hopefully at the Easter Vestry Meetings.
