Intercessions

One way to kick-start our plan to have a team of lay people leading intercessions at the Holy Communion would be for those interested to use a prepared form of intercessions – just to get used to leading the prayers in a service. Once that confidence is established, then people may find it easier to put in more of their own words. I am aware that we have been talking about this issue for some time, and not really made much progress – so if you would like to have a go, please have a word.

Once again we will be having a joint service for the benefice in the chapel at Lakeside YMCA. This will be on Sunday 8th August at 11.0 am, and everybody is urged to attend. Please be prepared either to offer a lift, or to accept one! It would be good to celebrate together in such lovely surroundings.
 
There will be a lunch after the service. Full details of the cost will be on the lists to sign in church, which will be available shortly.

Road Safety

Churchyard/Cemetery Regulations

Parking at Haverthwaite Cemetery Gates

We are told that cars parked on the road at Haverthwaite by the cemetery gates are considered to be a possible traffic hazard.
 
May we ask that, whenever possible, people visiting the cemetery should park somewhere along Old Barrow Road opposite, please?

Thank you for your co-operation in making visits to the cemetery safer.
 
Haverthwaite PCC

All churches are bound by the Diocesan regulations which are designed, with much experience, to ensure that the resting place of our loved ones looks suitably peaceful and as cared for as possible.
 
Maintaining churchyards to these standards is not easy, but we do our best. Volunteer labour is scarce and paid labour has to be paid for by us! Please help us to achieve what we are attempting.
 
Remember the regulations forbid the planting of flowers or bushes and, please, no jam jars. Artificial flowers are not allowed except for the poppies on Remembrance Day wreathes.
 
Christmas and Easter wreathes should contain no artificial flowers, and all wreathes should be removed within four weeks.
 
Mounding up of Graves:
 
Due one of our grass-cutters almost having a serious accident while trying to cut grass around graves which had been "mounded up" due to overbalancing we now require the process to stop. We are sure you will understand why.
 
Allowing the graves to flatten also makes it safer and easier to mow grass and tend the graves in both the church yard and cemetery.
 
Any graves which have been mounded up will be flattened if left as they are.
