Survival to Revival

There is to be a special service in the Cathedral on Saturday 8th November at 10.30 am to give thanks to God for progress in the parishes, and to look forward to the future. The diocese will make three areas of work particular priorities in the years 2009 to 2011. These are:

  • to support parishes and deaneries in work with children and young people
  • to develop ideas which will specifically help rural churches to develop and grow
  • to develop the best ways of recruiting, training, supporting and resourcing clergy and lay ministry.

For 2009 we are especially urged to think about how we could cater better for children and young families.

We have to reply by 26th September to say how many people from our benefice will be attending the service. If you would like to go, please let your PCC secretary know as soon as possible, so that we can send our joint reply from the benefice. A copy of the letter from our two bishops will be posted on the notice board in each church.

Road Safety

Churchyard/Cemetery Regulations

Parking at Haverthwaite Cemetery Gates

We are told that cars parked on the road at Haverthwaite by the cemetery gates are considered to be a possible traffic hazard.

May we ask that, whenever possible, people visiting the cemetery should park somewhere along Old Barrow Road opposite, please?

Thank you for your co-operation in making visits to the cemetery safer.

Haverthwaite PCC

All churches are bound by the Diocesan regulations which are designed, with much experience, to ensure that the resting place of our loved ones looks suitably peaceful and as cared for as possible.

Maintaining churchyards to these standards is not easy, but we do our best. Volunteer labour is scarce and paid labour has to be paid for by us! Please help us to achieve what we are attempting.

Remember the regulations forbid the planting of flowers or bushes and, please, no jam jars. Artificial flowers are not allowed except for the poppies on Remembrance Day wreathes.

Christmas and Easter wreathes should contain no artificial flowers, and all wreathes should be removed within four weeks.
