with Crake Valley Branch |
Thanks are offered to all those from the parishes who helped with the collecting for the Poppy Appeal, either as house-to-house or on premises, and those whose interest has contributed to what will again be an excellent collection. To date some £3805 is banked with the final total likely to be around £4000. Maybe some of the money collected will find its way back to this locality helping persons who need and qualify for help. If anyone knows of
such need, the Legion County Manager's Office, Station House, Kendal, LA9 6RY (015395 734411) may be contacted in the strictest of confidence. Membership of this branch is welcomed. Any potential members, ex-service or just supporting the aims of the Legion (there is only one class of membership) who wish to join the branch should contact the Hon. Secretary:-

The membership fee is £11 p.a. and the Legion's year commences on 1st October. Aidan Thompson helps to launch the Poppy AppealTina Thompson's husband Mick was killed in a road accident in Cyprus on his way to work in July 2005.
Mick had been in the Army since 1980, serving in Northern Ireland, Bosnia and Iraq, Tina and their four-month old son Aidan were left behind.
The Royal British Legion has been supporting Tina through her tribunals in order to help her secure a war widow's pension.
She says: "The Legion has been really helpful, very approachable. I've been able to ring them if I've had a problem. I know it's meant a lot to all of Mick's family. I'd ask everyone to help support the Poppy Appeal this year and to wear their Poppy with pride. "

Please help us with the Poppy Appeal by Giving Generously |
Poppy Collectors will be seen all over the country giving up their valuable time to help us look after our veterans from many conflicts around the world. Please help us to help them by giving generously.
Sadly, the First and second World Wars were not wars to end all wars and since the end of the Second World War the Legion has been helping serving and retired members of the armed forces where Government assistance is not available or insufficient. The casualties still being taken by our service men and women mean that our work is still critical to supporting them and their families.
Recent new articles have highlighted how badly our service men and women and their families can be treated once the fall victim to death or injury in service of their country.
That's why this year it is even more important than ever to give generously to the Poppy Appeal so we can ease their suffering. |
